Right Words

Bible studies, personal reflections, media reviews, and more: "How forcible are right words!" (Job 6:25a)

Book Batch #3

Alcatraz: Believe It or Not by T.C. Bakker. YA-level book with much more detail than the What Is Alcatraz? title I read earlier. I recommend both, since the latter title is quite brief. It’s amazing how this scary place has captured so many imaginations to this day. My favorite stories were the incarceration of Machine Gun Kelly in 1933 and the career of con artist Robert Miller (aka Count Victor Lustig). Bound to entertain!

The Lazy Intellectual by Richard J. and James G. Wallace. Per the introduction, this immensely useful book “lays out the indispensable facts, crucial high points, and fascinating elements of a basic comprehensive knowledge foundation” in less than 400 pages. Easy to follow and even if you’re well read, you’re likely to learn plenty.

The New Birth: A Compilation, Andre Sneidar ed. Are believers in this age of “Jew and Gentile in one body” (Eph. 3:6-9) actually “born again”? Or does that term apply outside the current dispensation? Read this brief set of pointed essays from StudyShelf.com to find out. Thoughts from both mid-Acts and Acts 28 writers are included.

The Golden Age of Innovation, by Mark J. Barrenechea. Thrilling (and chilling) essay on how innovation has changed lives, especially over the past 60 years. Not sure it’s in print any more, but other works by the author are available on Amazon. Recommended.
