More films I’ve watched recently…
Patton (1970). Classic war film performance by George C. Scott with able assistance from Karl Malden. Despite its PG rating, this film has a considerable amount of profanity, especially using God’s name in vain. I’m not sure why its writers had Patton curse so much, since his Wikipedia bio said that he only did so as (he felt) the occasion demanded.
Downfall (2004). In my opinion, this is the best film about Hitler and his final days there is. Alec Guiness couldn’t quite pull it off in Hitler: The Last Ten Days (1973), but I feel like Bruno Ganz (Swiss) does in this film. Riveting study of what was going on inside and outside the Bunker in those final hours.
Knight and Day (2010). Humorous and entertaining spy thriller with almost nonstop action. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are great together as the leads. Familiar rogue agent themes but still worth watching.
Hamnet (2025). The touching trailer drew me into watching this film, and I am so glad that I did. This is one of the most moving films I’ve seen in a long time. Not many films leave me feeling cathartic at the end, but this one did with all of its sorrows and joys. Jessie Buckley delivered an Oscar-winning performance as Shakespeare’s wife, Agnes (Anne) Hathaway. Don’t miss this one, please.
